6 – 8 Year olds…

Beaver Scouts, affectionately known as Beavers, form the foundational stage of the Scouting journey, welcoming young adventurers aged 6 to 8. Established in 1986, the Beaver Scouts have grown into a vibrant community, offering children their first taste of Scouting’s values and camaraderie.

Programme and Activities

Beavers engage in a diverse array of activities designed to be both educational and enjoyable:

  • Outdoor Exploration: From nature walks to camping, Beavers are introduced to the wonders of the natural world, fostering a sense of environmental stewardship.
  • Creative Endeavors: Arts and crafts, music, and drama sessions encourage creativity and self-expression.
  • Community Involvement: Participating in community projects instills a sense of responsibility and belonging.

These activities are crafted to promote teamwork, build confidence, and develop essential life skills.

Awards and Badges

To recognise their achievements, Beavers can earn a variety of badges:

  • Activity Badges: Covering areas such as Animal FriendSpace, and Sports, these badges encourage Beavers to explore new interests and hobbies.
  • Staged Activity Badges: These are designed to be undertaken by any member of the movement between the age of 6 and 18. They are completed in different stages, so after completing each stage, members are awarded the relevant badge and can advance to the next level while still in a younger section.
  • Challenge Awards: These awards are often completed as a Colony as part of their normal activities rather than individually, and cover the range and aims of the programme.

The pinnacle of a Beaver’s journey is the Chief Scout’s Bronze Award, achieved by completing all Challenge Awards and additional activity badges.

Structure of a Beaver Colony

Beavers are organized into groups called Colonies, each typically comprising up to 24 young people. Regular meetings are held, often weekly, where Beavers participate in a balanced programme of activities. Each Colony is led by a team of dedicated volunteers who plan and facilitate activities, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.

Uniform and Identity

Beavers wear a distinctive turquoise sweatshirt or T-shirt, paired with a neckerchief in their group’s colours. This uniform fosters a sense of belonging and pride among the young members.

Joining the Adventure

Paisley & District Scouts currently host multiple Beaver Colonies, each offering a welcoming environment for young children to embark on their Scouting journey. We are committed to providing a supportive and enriching space where Beavers can develop essential life skills while having fun.
